Ingredients

Pie Crust

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter cold, diced
  • 6-8 tbsp ice water

Filling

  • 6-7 apples peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice freshly squeezed

Instructions

  • Combine flour, salt, and sugar in a bowl. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add ice water until dough forms. Divide in half, shape into disks, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out one dough disk and fit into a 9-inch pie pan. Trim excess dough and refrigerate.
  • In a large bowl, mix sliced apples, sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, flour, and lemon juice until well coated.
  • Pour apple mixture into prepared pie crust. Roll out the second dough disk and place over the filling. Seal and crimp edges, cut slits in the top for ventilation.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 50 minutes or until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly. Cool for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for the best flavor balance. Serve with vanilla ice cream for an extra treat!
