Conservation Plan

I believe in karma.

I believe that there’s a sacred energy exchange constantly happening in everything pervading every mode of life. That the physical, mental, emotional, moral, spiritual universes are deeply connected and influenced by each other. That energy moves between these planes or can be stuck in them.

The cosmology of the Sierra Nevada peoples include a practice called pagamento, simply “payment” in spanish. It is a spiritual offering made to the Earth and the natural world to maintain balance and harmony. I think it’s an incredible practice.

Much like our understanding of Mother Nature, the indigenous peoples of the Sierra Nevadas view the Earth as a living entity, a “Great Mother” (Aluna), and human actions must honor her to prevent ecological and spiritual imbalance.

Offering pagamento is their way of giving back to the Earth for the resources you use, such as water, food, and shelter. Everything taken from nature must be repaid. This is done to maintain the equilibrium between humans and the environment. Pagamentos typically include natural materials such as leaves, shells, stones, or food. They symbolize gratitude and intention to restore balance.

Land Conservation

We are a part of Gopal Farm’s incubator program and follow their standards outlined here.

Resource Conservation

No-gas, No-tractor

Below 5 acres, there’s really no need for that. We are going to broadfork the land instead of tilling, which is a gentler way to introduce oxygen to the soil and reduce compaction without tilling. Tilling is the act of flipping the top layer of grass/roots upside down, essentially burying them and letting them rot. This destroys heavily damages the mycological networks in the soil and provides the veggies with less nutrients. Driving a tractor over the land will compact the soil between the beds and reduce the area roots can move into.

Plastic-Free Packaging

We will always be 100% free of single use, plastic packaging. We think that glass is the way to go.

Glass is not only reusable and recyclable but also a safer and more sustainable option for packaging. By choosing glass, we ensure that your food stays fresh and free from chemicals often found in plastics. Plus, our glass containers can be returned, reused, or repurposed, making them an eco-friendly choice that aligns with our commitment to sustainability.

We’re also exploring other sustainable materials, like repurposed wood for crates, compostable paper and plant-based wraps to further reduce waste.

Our goal is to make it easy for you to enjoy fresh, delicious produce without contributing to the growing problem of plastic pollution. Together, we can protect the planet while nourishing our communities!

Please consider supporting us on this eco-conscious journey of eating well while honoring the Earth, supporting sustainability, and maintaining the delicate balance of energy that connects us all.
