About All Hearts Farm

Hello, it’s Avery (she/her)

I am a self-taught software engineer with 12 years of professional experience working in Finance, Real Estate, Gaming and InsureTech in New York.

I enjoy gardening, painting, wheel throwing, guerilla art installations made of flowers, sculpture, meditation, and basically everything else

Due to a slow tech market, I now have a lot of time on my hands and I can do whatever I want. And I want to farm! Honestly, for the rest of my life.

So I decided to move upstate Oct 24′ start a small-scale no-till, organic farm.

I found a bunch of people on Lex who were passionate about farming who wanted to split labor, expenses, and profit.

You can rent acreage for $100-300 nationwide and a single person can farm an acre though 2 people are nice to have. Farming is actually accessible if you can split the $15-30k upfront cost because you make 15-30k profit per acre farming and with a CSA you have already made agreements with your customers and have cards on file to bill.

I saw it as a problem of finding enough people to be okay with not wanting to make much of a profit the first year but who will split cost of major upfront expenses like fencing and irrigation to make a profit in the next few years.

It seems like a lot of people want to farm and everyone wants to eat good and the response to the CSA has been immense!
